Technology of the Terran Alliance:
- Star Tunnels: Artificial wormholes are created by sending half of a portal through hyperspace. A link is formed between the two points allowing for instanteous travel from point A to point B regardless of the distance. Developed by Professor Penn, these links are called Star Tunnels. Due to the prohibitive cost and size of fold drives, these have become necessary in maintaining an interstellar nation such as the TA. Now normal space craft regularly travel from Earth to Triol. But since each tunnel can only provide one route, the number of portals in any one system is limited. At the present time, nearly all tunnels intersect at Triol. They extent to all major systems. The phrase "all tunnels lead to Triol" is becoming a proverb reflecting the moon's importance.
- Neotech/Neoculture: Neoculture is the method of deriving energy from the limitless reserves in hyperspace. Originally researched by Zor, it was abandoned when Protoculture was uncovered. It remained lost until Cabel rediscovered it. Working with Penn and Exedore, Zor's early experiments were repeated and expanded for everyday use. Like Protoculture, Neoculture reacts to sentient thoughts and is capable of warping space. But that is where the similarities end. Neoculture has no plans of its own and lacks any will its namesake had. Neoculture got its name to remind people of the horrors of the Robotech wars and to serve as a reminder for future generations.
- Cybernetics: Apart from the neural interfaces invented by Dr.Nichalous, cybernetics is a dream unlikely to ever be fully realized. Nichalous's own cybernetics were installed in Newspace and were of direct Haydon origin. Efforts to reproduce them were entirely unsuccessful. More importantly efforts to create vehicles remotely piloted via cybernetics has resulted in slow response time and a serious risk of brain damage. However a direct link between mind and machine works twice as good when compared to Robotech. Another down side is that the surgery involved has a high mortality rate. Only a few people are mentally able to accept a computer link. Plus since the technology is always improving, a person can become obsolete before s/he recovers. The current trend is with neural helmets based off old 'thinking caps' with no surgery required.
- Dragon Veritechs: This latest version of transformable defence fighter is the first to be used with Neotech. The name 'dragon' is specifically designated for the cockpit/escape pod. Using the latest in modular design, the dragon is able to be transplanted from veritech to veritech. This system was designed to minimize the time needed to adapt to the newest developments in technology. The controls in each dragon are designed to work for any type of body. In case the body is damaged, the dragon automatically ejects. By itself a dragon is capable of Mach .5 flight in space and half that in an
atmostsphere and has no offensive abilities. The current selection of bodies is:
- Drake: This is the most common type of dragon body. It is a space fighter roughly shaped like the original Valkerie with two main differences. One is that Drakes are a quarter larger than Valkeries. The other are the wings, instead of the traditional wings for atmospheric flight, the Drake's wings are about twelve feet long and end in large pods. These pods contain missiles and maneuvering jets. The thrusters and launchers can rotate somewhat in any mode. The result is superior performance and firepower. In guardian or battloid mode, this pods partially retract.
- Tooth: The Tooth is little more than a Veritch Hover Tank. The Dragon is placed in a cradle located in the heart of the machine. To accomidate the many directional changes the Tooth goes through during transformation, the cradle was built to keep the pilot as still as possibile. Here the main difference is the cockpit is fully enclosed in every mode and the legs can be fitted with larger jets for space activity.
- Claw: The design for the Claw was based off the Robotech Master's hoversled for thier Bioroids. It serves a similiar purpose but is also capable of being piloted by itself. The primary mode is a flatbed with four very large legs. In this form, the Claw is capable of transversing virtually any train while carrying troops, suplies, or a Tooth. At the joint where leg connects to body is an anti-grav generator to support the Claw in case the leg is destroyed or used to attack. Nonmilitary versions of the Claw (which are nontransformable) are frequently used for construction. In the second mode, the legs are folded around and under the body with power concentrated to the anti-grav units. Here speed and manevurability are most important. Non piloted Claws are often paired with Tooths for the extra speed and firepower.
Dragett: Redesigned hovorcycles with the transformation capability of a Cyclone. In both modes is is capable of high-speed hovering and limited flight. But like the Cyclone, Dragetts come in various specialized styles. But unlike their predessors, there is some amount of customization. While structural differences prevent a total conversion between styles, a reasonable facimility is possible. For example, an assult dragett can have most equiment exchanged with a recon dragett for a better armored, but slower, recon unit. But this is generally discouraged save for solo missions, makeshift repair/replacement parts, or similiar predictiments.
- Assult: The 'standard' Dragett. Equiped similarly to the standard Cyclone
- Recon: Gains increased speed and sensor cability in exchange for reduces weapons and armor
- Artilerly: Slow, but heavily armored with several racks of long range missiles.
Dirks: Improved, unmanned Lancer-class drones. Has basic AI and are directed by a Dagger. Was quickly developed and mass-producded as the TA was still forming to provide military strength while drakes were still being perfected.
Daggers: Command ship for Dirks. Has minimial crew due to large centeral command computer. This superior AI is capable basic learning and some have developed their own styles. All work in conjunction with the captian.
