Post End of the Circle Robotech Neotech 1
Return to my Home Page
The commentary Lisa Hayes-Hunter gives after returning from Newspace presents a bright future after the Shapings. While that may be a good way to end a story as long as this, it provides precious little for writers to work with when creating Robotech III. Trying to remain as true to the original text as I could, here is my own post-Protoculture Robotech:
Nations: The Galactic Council acts like our UN, but due to the limited number of nations each world is allowed one representative who is grouped with others from their nation. Because the Robotech Wars literally destroyed planets, the phrase 'world' also includes starflung and nomadic species (ex Zentradi and Haydonites). The current location for the Galactic Council is Tiresia. The Council is primarily for nations to work out their differences peacefully and establish a interstellar law. However it has very little legal power
with only trust and respect left to enforce what few laws are passed.
- Terran Alliance:
Primary worlds: Earth, Triol, New Praxis, Zentradi , Haydonites, Eden
Secondary worlds: Garuda, Spheris
This is THE galactic superpower in terms of military power, size, and technology. Originally composed of the four human species (Earthlings, Zentradi, Triolians, and Praxians), it later adopted Garuda and Spheris at their request. Its primary concerns are to maintain order and peace in the Quadrant, repair damage from the Robotech War, and begin the colonization of available planets. Their first planet, Eden, was settled five years ago and is well on its way to full development. The next planet, Shangra-La, has been explored and a colony ship is currently in production. Their path of colonization is to alternate between the ends of an imaginary line drawn between Earth and Triol. (Eden is on the Earth side.) A third planet, Abilon, is currently being scouted. The Terran Alliance tries to keep good relations with the other nations. Despite being made up of several species each with its own home world, relations within the Alliance is extremely well. The differences between Earthlings, Triolians, and Praxians have dwindled to non-existant. Also a considerable effort is made to involve all of its members in its goals.
- Karbarran Empire:
After the Sentinels war, Karbarran returned to its pervious hobby, carving out its own empire. So far they have retaken four out of the ten planets and moons they possessed before the Invid - Masters war. Fortunately their path of colonization is away from Earth and the Local group. They still remember how the Sentinels (esp the humans) saved their children and their planet. It is that fact more than anything which has prevented war between them and the REF for the Local Group. Karbarrans privately call humans 'krorts' after a small, but useful, insect which is normally annoying but very deadly when provoked. When the first generation of Protoculture vanished, the Karbarran military was hit the hardest. As interstellar nations began to form, Karbarra could not offer the protection and security the REF was ready and willing to provide. The result was everyone else joining the Terran Alliance and feelings of resentment for Karbarra. The development of Neoculture has only added insult to injury.
- Peryton:
Still suffering from the Curse, Peryton has resisted all relief efforts in favor of self reliance. Today the reconstruction continues, but at least the end is in sight. So far they have remained independent but lately they have been playing up to the Karbarran Empire. A heated argument where an Earth ambassador called Perytons "stubborn devils" has had disastrous consequences. The fact that the resignation of said ambassador did not appease the Perytons has led some to believe they were just looking for an excuse to sever ties with the REF. Further specularation indicates the Peryton representative deliberately provoked the ambassador into saying that racist comment.
- Javerians:
Their home planet, Javer, is on the far edge of the local group and such suffered almost no damage during the Robotech Wars. A race of computer intelligences, there are rumors that they were Haydon's prototypes for the Haydonites. Of course the distinct lack of Haydon in their history files is no proof one way or the other. So far their nation is only a few systems. There is plenty of room for growth, but little desire for expansion. Javar itself is nearly entirely metal and its people have no physical bodies. Instead they are like computer programs allowed to wander about an enormous hard drive. They have the ability to "download" themselves into machines or any fair size piece of metal and use any electronic device hooked up to it. If there are no such devices, they also can shape the metal to their will. This ability is slow and requires a great amount of concentration on the part of the Javarian. However they are easily detectable, minimizing their usefulness as spies. Being electronic, they have a hard time relating to physical beings. They are most comfortable communicating by computers, through vid screens, or any forms of electronics. Even their council seat is just a relay console to the representative's quarters (a 3 meter cube of steel). Politically, they are neutral but do show some liking to the Terran Alliance, or at least their "luxurious" technology. To them, inhabiting a veritech is akin to riding in a limo on prom night.
Individual Planets:
- Garuda: Due to Haydon's experiments, the Garudans are currently restricted to their own planet. With new technologies, they now have to worry about overpopulation. Their industrial revolution began when they joined the Terran Alliance. With Garudan-only space stations orbiting the planet, the overpopulation problem is at least on hold. Because of the isolation Haydon has put them under, Garuda is the most reclusive of the Terran Alliance. It is rare to find more than the token Guardans on any Alliance project. But that is expected to change in the near future. Recent advances in medical technology have created the possibility of Garudans being genetically engineered to survive without the Hin. This is causing a rift within the Garudan Council between those who wish to keep their connection with the Hin and those who want to fit in with everyone else. At this time, the conversion technology is pure speculation, but already its effect on Garudan society is being considered.
- Spheris: Since its liberation, Spheris has more or less returned to isolationism. Most of the off world Spherians are of the younger generations and those who were part of the Sentinels. The more conservative ones are trying to return to the time when their planet was a center for gem trade. But with each year, their voice in planetary government diminishes. Like Garuda, Spheris joined the Terran Alliance for protection and technology. Also like Garuda, a social rift is developing. With Spherians becoming an integral part of TA colony missions, there is a growing number of Spherians being born within the rock of other worlds. While they are usually accepted without question, there are those who treat them as second-rate Spherians. Most of those people are on, or support, the older members of the planetary government.
- New Praxis: Haydon apparently decided that it was time for his attempt at a single-gender society to end. Experts believe that it was a decision made before he left Praxis for the first time! The new washi left on New Praxis now impregnated them with children of either sex. Many realized that the Sisterhood was doomed and made an attempt to defy Haydon's decision. The washi was slowly abandoned in favor of taking Terran partners (which was known to produce only female children) to keep their traditions alive. But years later as these daughters grew to womanhood, another discovery was made. These Praxian-Terran children were able to have sons as well as daughters. This news was very demoralizing to the planet as a whole and the reaction is mixed. About half publicly admit that the Sisterhood is over and it is time to accept Haydon and leave the old ways. Most of the rest do not know what to think. But a few are determined to preserve what they can. There have been several anti-male riots caused by various Sisterhood organizations. Events are being compared it to the Malcontent Uprisings of Earth. Naturally the Terran Alliance is trying to ease tensions. The TA leaders have decided it would preserve the history of the Sisterhood and allowing it to die with dignity.
- Triol: Triol has recovered the best from the Robotech War. It kept its Greco-roman style while slowly integrating Earth and Praxian features. It has become a place where people from every planet can meet. While being mostly human, it is very common to see the nonhuman members of the Terran Alliance walking the streets of Tiresia. Those from the other nations are less common, but still welcome everywhere. Tiresia is famous for its Street of Planets. It is where all diplomats from the Galactic Council live along with shopping areas specializing in off-planet merchandise and food.
- Earth: This world had literally rose from the ashes of the phoenix. What was left of its inhabitants unconsciously decided that they had their fill of hostile aliens and was ready to forgive and start the healing process. The technology from the Ark Angel helped get things moving again. But a larger source of materials and know-how was from various cashes hidden between the Malcontent Uprisings and the Second Robotech War. Two weeks after the Ark Angel left for Haydon IV, the Farrago II landed on Earth. For the first time Earth, a new species of alien arrived peacefully. At the welcoming ceremony, Rand was quoted "We no longer see the stars as potential enemies, but as our friends." The Farrago II was on a relief mission. Its crew was surprised by how little Earth needed its help. For the next few years it served as a barge and cargo ship, carrying debris such as Zentradi ships left over from the Rain into Mars orbit for recycling. Earth has also become a home for Zentradi looking to settle down. Even though they are at full size, they are fully integrated into Earth culture. Many have moved to the plains of North America and became farmers. Some see it as a form of penance for past crimes, a few consider it a final rejection of the Imparitive, but most people don't care since farming has been the traditional vocation for former warriors. Earth also supports a few thousand Triolians, both from the Master's starships and from the planet itself. Additionally there are a few Praxians who did not want to "play guardian" to the Invid.
- Eden: A world rich in diverse organic life, Eden existed inside a small nebula along with the rest of its system. The interference caused by the nebula protected it from sensors until discovered by a REF shuttle. The colony was established by a joining human-Spherian team who found a way for sensors to cut through the nebula. Currently it enjoys the privilege of being the top vacation spot in the Local Group. The population is roughly 60% Earthling, 20% Triolan, 10% Praxian, 8% Spherian, and 2% other. The mineral rich nebula has led to some interesting developments in astro-mining. As development of the planet continues, there are rumors that the Terran Alliance might make their new capital there.
- Mars: When Gloval destroyed Sera Base to escape Kryon he unknowingly created a massive fissure beneath the sand. Over the years the fissure grew. When Farrago II discovered it, it was too late. By then it had grown too deep and long to stop. Geologists reported the fissure will eventually destroy the planet. All the REF's technology could do was delay its destruction. By using magnets and heat-shielding force fields, the fissure was turned into the largest known metal refinery. There is now a ten mile wide tunnel going through the planet. Scrap sent through is melted in Mars's core then separated through magnetics. The refinery is capable of processing over 500 Zentradi cruisers a day. In planetary orbit is a new factory satilite which manufactures craft for both military and civilian use. Naturally all of the population stays in orbit.
